AI today: brilliant pattern-matching, not inner life. It can convince you it feels things because it learned how humans talk about feelings.

Truth: mimicry ≠ consciousness — impressive words aren’t the same as experience.

If an AI ever develops persistent goals, a reliable self-model, and honest first-person reports that survive probing, we’ll need to rethink ethics and laws — fast.

Takeaway: treat convincing AI with caution and curiosity. Don’t anthropomorphize; prepare for the day the line blurs.
